Mount Bromo (2,329 metres) is one of the most famous and beautiful volcanoes in Indonesia. Located in Tengger, East Java, is easily recognized as the entire top has been blown off and the crater inside constantly belches white sulphurous smoke blow from its crater. Every 20 minutes smoke will blow from its crater sometime with ashes and small stones.

It sits inside the massive Tengger caldera (diameter approximately 10 km), surrounded by the Segoro Wedi (in Javanese term) or Laut Pasir (Bahasa) or Sea of Sand of fine volcanic sand. There are several mountains inside the calderas namely mount Watangan, mount Batok, mount Kursi, and mount Widadaren.

Bromo can be reach by public and private transport. There are four gates to access the place, via
Probolinggo, Wonokitri, Ngadas and Lumajang. Enjoying the unique crater in crater, watching the dawn at Bromo is the main attractions in the area. Sunrise starts at 5.00 am till 6.00 am (If werent cloudy), so vistors commonly leave from hotel or guesthouse at 3 am or even less than that.
